Home to the famous Janaki Temple, Dhanusha is considered the home for the Hindu deity Sita, and archeological evidence has proven the existence of human settlements in the region that used the Northern Black Polished Ware dated 600-300 BCE. Dhanusha is the home of martyr Durga Nanda Jha, who attacked King Mahendra of Nepal for dissolving the first democratically elected parliament in Nepal. Jha was subsequently executed for his attack.
