Local people say the name “Gulmi” originated from the presence of an army platoon (gulma) of the Lichchhivi near the Gulma Gandaki River. In 1938 CE, Hira Giri introduced coffee to Nepal by bringing it from the Sindhu Province of Myanmar. He planted the first coffee seeds in Aapchaur, initiating a legacy of coffee cultivation in Nepal. Currently, Gulmi exports coffee to countries like Korea, Japan, and France.
