Panchthar comes from two terms “Pantharu”, which means agreed, and “Thum” which means fort. It is said to be a place where kings of the region assembled to decide rules upon religion and culture.
For any project on yaks, or the wintergreen oil, Panchthar is your destination. The Yak Eco-tourism Festival is held there. Panchthar is also home to the extinct marbled cats and Himalayan red panda.
